Gladys M. Mitchell, 83, of Marlin, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, at her home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Marlin with the Reverend Mark Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on September 26, 1931 in Chilton, Texas to Fred and Thelma Mae Spivey Kilgore. She married William Henry Mitchell on December 21, 1951 in Marlin, Texas. Mrs. Mitchell spent her life working alongside her husband in their ranching business and as a Real Estate Broker. For more than 30 years, she partnered with her sister, Freddie, at Mitchell and Walker Realtors in Marlin. Mrs. Mitchell’s favorite activities included riding and showing horses with her daughter, Lisa, playing tennis, golf, bridge with friends, and winning golf tournaments at the Marlin Country Club. She was an active member of the Marlin Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club, Ladies Golf Association, Marlin Festival Association, McLanahan Riding Club, and various other civic and volunteer organizations in Falls County. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved to spend time with her family and many friends. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Marlin.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Mitchell Flores and husband, George, of Houston; grandchildren, Nicholas, Sydney, Sophia and Natalie Flores of Houston; and sister, Freddie Walker of Marlin, and several nieces, nephews, and their families.
