

Visitation will be Sunday, January 26 from 2pm to 8pm at Adams Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 27 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marlin. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Hortencia was born May 20, 1959 in Marlin, Texas to parents Paul and Juanita Robles. She was one of 10 children. She was a college graduate with an Associate’s Degree in business, clerical and typing. She worked for Dr. Oei as a secretary and also worked for Extraco Banks as Vice-President and Branch Manager of the Lakeshore Branch. She married Richard Colunga in 1986 and they later renewed their vows at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Hortencia was a Eucharistic Cup Minister, a Lecture Reader and a CCD teacher at St. Joseph’s.
Hortencia was instrumental in the sponsorship of multiple organizations including the Mart Youth Football Club where over 200 kids have been given the opportunity to excel and learn the game of football. She presented scholarship funds for many young people attending school in Lacy-Lakeview and Bellmead. Hortencia was a member of the Bellmead Chamber of Commerce and was a guest speaker for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Waco.
Hortencia was a humanitarian, she loved to help and take care of others. She enjoyed reading , dancing, flowers, going to the movies and watching her grandchildren take part in their various activities. Hortencia was an incredible cook and inspired her son to go to culinary school, but often reminded him that she didn’t need to go to school to learn how to cook! Hortencia loved and cherished her family and her pets Othello and Zeus. She instilled great family values in her sons, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and they will forever cherish those values.
Hortencia was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; sister, Susie Wegman; Father-In-Law, Clyde Colunga; pet, Zues and her favorite actor Patrick Swayze.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband who she has known all her life, Ricky; sons, Cayman Colunga and Jose (Eli) Arjon and wife Vanessa; grandchildren, Xavier Flores-Moreno; Jose (Trey) Arjon, III and Isaiah Arjon; Mother-In-Law, Dominga (Emma) Colunga; Brother-In-Law Clyde Colunga, Jr., Nick Colunga; Brothers and sisters, Tina Rodriguez, Paul Robles, Jr., Mary Saenz, Mercedes Claudio, Marcelino (Mino) Robles , Rosie Bautista, Frank Robles and Anna (the baby) Wheeler.
Memorial donations may be made to Hortencia’s Memorial account at Extraco Bank at Bosque Blvd and Valley Mills Dr. in Waco. Call for information.
