He was born January 7, 1937 in Seale Round Prairie, Texas to Roy Condon and Ivy May (Watts) Mathews. He married the love of his life, Nola Faye Avery, on August 11, 1954 and they shared 56 wonderful years together until her death in 2010.
James is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Bruner; Rhonda Yezak and husband Michael. Four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola; son-in-law, Dennis Bruner; his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin, Texas. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Marlin. Burial will follow in Friedens Cemetery in Riesel, Texas.
Pallbearers include: Kevin Bruner, Marcus Downes, Vince Mathews, Rickey Wagner, Adam Yezak, and
Michael Yezak.
