

Joy Macanliss formerly of Houston, Texas died peacefully on January 21, 2012 at home in Marlin, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Marlin with Rev. Blake Herridge officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 23, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home.
Joy was born April 3, 1923 to Richard Roy Ray and Lillian Futrell Ray. She and her brother Richard Roy Ray, grew up in Waco and Belton and graduated from Belton High School. Joy attended Baylor University (1939 – 1943) where she joined Alpha Omega Sorority (later becoming Pi Beta Phi) and she was selected as a Baylor Beauty. At Baylor, she met Marshall Anson Macanliss, DDS and they married in 1943. After living briefly in Dallas and New Orleans, they moved to Houston where they lived for 40 years. Retiring to Marlin, they spent 25 years enjoying the ranching life.
In Houston, Joy was very active in South Main Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with the International Language Program (SMILE). She was a dedicated mother and homemaker. A beautiful lady both inside and outwardly, she was dearly loved by her family and many life-long friends. An active Baylor Alum, Joy became a passionate Lady Bears Basketball fan.
Joy is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Marshall (Dugan) Macanliss of Marlin, Tx; son, James R. Macanliss and wife Susan of Dallas; daughter, Mary Carol Markham and husband Daniel of of Houston, Tx; grandchildren, Caroline Hunter Macanliss, Stuart Owen Macanliss, Meredith Claire Markham, Marshall Cameron Markham, Melanie Grace Markha; sister-in-law, Martha Martin Ray and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family wishes to thank her loving and capable caregivers, especially Betty Alexander and Joyce Rosas, the Visiting Angels and Providence Hospice.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Baylor University, The Michael J. Fox for Parkinson Research Foundation or Campus Crusade for Christ.
