Richard Walton Janeke was born in Marlin, Tx on August 13, 1953 to Stanley and Alyce Hay Janeke. He graduated from Marlin High School in 1972. Upon the death of his father in 1973, he assumed ownership of the long established Janeke Shoe Shop in downtown Marlin. He maintained operations of the shoe shop while he found his calling as a public servant for the City of Marlin Fire Department. There, he advanced from firefighter, to captain and then he was honored to be named Chief. He retired after 30 years of service. He went on to work at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Marlin and Falls Community Hospital as a security officer.
He married Ann Nors in West, Tx on November 16, 1991.
Richard and Ann shared a deep love for travel and were fortunate to have visited several cities and countries. They were able to live out their dream in 2018 of exploring their ancestral roots by touring Poland and the Czech Republic. They were especially happy when they could fly to an island in the Caribbean, but their favorite destination was Jamaica and enjoyed their 10th visit on a family vacation there this past July.
When at home, you could find Richard yelling at the TV any time the Dallas Cowboys or Texas A&M Aggies played football. He and Ann attended many high school, college and pro football games.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Michael Janeke, and his beloved daughter, Shelly, who was taken too soon by a drunk driver.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ann. Son, Troy and wife Cindy, son-in-law, Tim Easter, and granddaughters Chesney Easter and Dylan Janeke, sister Jan Anders and husband Lee, brother John Janeke and wife Martha, brother-in-law Thomas (TC) Nors and wife Joann, brother-in-law Chad Tosh, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his dachshund fur babies, Dilly and Honey.
