Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Bingo Queen of the Universe, following a life filled with love, family and Bingo, died Friday, January 25, 2019 at Marrero Healthcare Center where she had been a resident since 2016. She was 86 years old. Betty’s story began on November 30, 1932 when she became the youngest daughter of Lucille and Justilien J. Adams. After a whirlwind romance, she was married on December 3, 1949 to Miles J. Michael, Jr. of Pleasantville, New Jersey. Betty became a Navy wife and mother and moved from coast to coast with her little family, finally returning to Westwego, Louisiana in 1967. Betty was a shrewd and hard-working business woman and was the successful proprietor of a Golden Cleaners franchise for many years. She was well loved and respected by her neighbors in Terrytown, Louisiana. Her love of Bingo is legendary, once prompting a neighbor to remark, “It’s six o’ clock, Betty just left for the eight o’ clock game.” Betty was more creative than she realized, and she became an accomplished seamstress. Her hobby was collecting Betty Boop memorabilia and in her later years she was affectionately known as Bingo Betty Boop. Betty was kind and loving, funny and sweet natured. Her lack of formal education was sometimes a source of frustration to her, but she was a woman of deep faith and she did the best she could with the hand she was dealt. She gave herself freely, completely and lovingly without expecting anything in return. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Justilien J. Adams, husband Miles J. Michael, Jr., sons Miles J. Michael III and Justilian Joseph Michael and grandson Justilian James Michael. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Myles Michael, grandchildren Thelma, Matthew and Dylan Michael, great grandson Javan J. Michael-Johnston, big sister Loretta Guidroz and host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral mass will be held at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana. Friends, relatives, residents & staff of Marrero Healthcare Center and all who knew her or were touched by her are welcome to attend. Flowers can be sent to Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. An online guestbook is available at www.westsideleitzeagan.com
