A cross was lifted off of the shoulders of Christie Lynn Poussard as she ascended into eternal rest in Christ's arms at 8pm on Friday, January the 12th, 2024, at the age of 52--after a six month long battle with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 8th, 1971 to Carmen and the late Leo Poussard. Christie is survived by her sons Jude Foret, Jr. (Phoenix), Dustin Foret (Chelsea) and Robert "Lil Bobby" Bailey, III (Thomas), her brothers Perry Poussard, Sr. (Theresa) and Chris Poussard-Zacarias (Edson) and her sisters Hollie Fitzhenry (the late Kevin) and Mary Poussard (Kelby). Christie is also survived by her dear friend Robert "Big Bobby" Bailey, Jr., many nieces, nephews, cousins and supporters that gave her an abundance of thoughts and prayers.
Christie was raised in Westwego, Louisiana along with her brothers and sisters, and she was the epitome of an 80's girl who loved to dance. She attended grade school at Our Lady of Prompt Succor, where she was crowned Queen of the school fair in 1980 and excelled with honors academically. It was in Westwego that she met her first husband, Jude Nicholas Foret Sr., with whom she traveled coast to coast across the United States and bore their two sons, Jude and Dustin. And years later, she was blessed with her third son, Robert Bailey III with her next partner, Robert Bailey Jr. after surviving a near fatal car accident at 8 months pregnant.
Known for her meticulous drive, Christie passed down her tenacity and passion onto her three boys. She toiled endlessly to ensure them their opportunities to gain a quality education and discover their individual purposes in life. She encouraged them to whole-heartedly pursue their interests, grand or small; whether it be creative, academic or military. She did all of this in the face of the difficulties of single motherhood, economic uncertainty, and tragedies that had befallen her throughout her life.
Despite the many burdens on Christie Lynn's shoulders throughout the years, she was a simple woman with simple tastes. She enjoyed cooking French style green beans, roast and pork chops with gravy for her boys every Sunday. With Dustin and Bobby, she enjoyed long binges of Big Brother, Roseanne and Golden Girls. Before her passing she had expanded her TV horizons to include RuPaul's Drag Race, which she shared a common interest with her oldest son, Jude.
An advocate for blood donation and giving to charity, Christie Lynn will bless two strangers with the gift of sight by donating her eyes through Ochsner's Organ Donor program, in her last graceful act after her passing.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the No One Fights Alone organization for their support during this time. If anyone would like to make a donation in Christie's memory, please visit www.nofanola.org.
Her children invite and encourage members of all their families--Poussard, Foret, and Bailey-- along with friends, colleagues, and neighbors in this trying time who are in need of love and support to attend the service for a celebration of building bridges. The visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Westwego. Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM followed by the interment at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
