Constance "Connie" Mary Dauenhauer Bahman passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving children on April 23, 2023 at the age of 80. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 7, 1943 to the late Constance Rosary Young Dauenhauer and the late Henry Charles Dauenhauer. Devoted wife of 59 years to Cyrus Bahman. Loving mother of Z. David Bahman, Rosary "Romi" Voorhies (Ralph), Maryam G. Bahman, Constance Cook (Joseph G. Jr.) and Mahmoud Bahman. Proud grandmother aka "Gaw Gaw" of Alexander Augustus Talbot, Cyrus "Cy" David Bahman, Constance Claire "CC" Cook and Max Darius Bahman. Connie is also survived by her cousin Frank Lauricella and dear friends.
Connie grew up in Gretna, Louisiana. She attended both Ursuline boarding school and St Joseph Gretna Catholic school for her elementary education. Connie then graduated from St.Mary's Dominican High school in 1961 where she excelled as a mezzo-soprano opera singer.
Upon graduating from high school, Connie went on to teach special needs children at the Westbank ARC before taking a 12 year break in order to raise her five children. She made sure all 5 of her kids were involved in some type of productive activity, whether it be sports, dancing, extracurricular reading, music, or art. Connie's children were always being shuttled somewhere by her.
After caring for a dear friend during a battle with a terminal illness, Connie realized that her true calling, just as her loving mother Rosary's, was nursing. Connie returned to school while remaining a devoted mother to her 5 children and graduated from her nursing program as salutatorian and was also voted "most outstanding student" by her classmates.
After graduating from nursing school, Connie worked at West Jefferson Medical center for 30 years. During her nursing career she worked on the oncology unit, in the emergency room, on med surg, and finished her career as manager of the purchasing/cart supply department.
Once Connie retired, she poured her heart and soul into what she considered the greatest joy of her life, the role of being "Gaw Gaw" to her grandchildren. With her exceptional cooking skills for both American and Iranian dishes, she always had something delicious to enjoy when walking in to her home.
Connie loved classical and opera music, was an avid reader, did her daily crossword in the newspaper, and loved sitting outside to watch the birds.
The family would like to thank Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, Notre Dame Hospice, and caretaker Ms. Alexis Jarrow for their loving care during Connie's time of need.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on May 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church in Gretna, Louisiana.
