Mr. Dominick Joseph Sciortino

Dominick Joseph Sciortino passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 8, 2024. He was born in New Orleans on August 21, 1945, raised in the Irish Channel and later became a resident of Belle Chasse. Husband to his loving wife of almost 57 years, Mary Barbara Weigand Sciortino. Father of Dominick Joseph Sciortino, Jr. and Susan Sciortino Aucoin. Father in Law of Jennifer Marsell Sciortino and Dwayne Richard Aucoin. Loving Papa to Emily Ann Aucoin, Dominick Joseph Sciortino, III, Henry Richard Aucoin, Benjamin Joseph Aucoin and Mia Katherine Sciortino. Brother of Theresa Fandison and Antoinette Francis (Fred). Brother-in law of Mary Beverly Weigand and Valerie Hiser (John). Godfather of Jennifer Hiser Bailey (Jon), Christopher Massari (Kendra) and Lisa Dawson Beaumont; Uncle of Darren Massari, Stephanie Hiser, and Samuel Massari. His Bernard cousins: Marilyn Bernard, Ben Bernard (Vicki), Bob Bernard (Mandy), Jane Bernard Evans (Steve), Bill Bernard (Cathy), and Monica Bernard Knauer (Joey). Loved by his many other extended nieces, nephews, other cousins as well as the friends of his children. Dominick was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Sciortino and Rose Caluda Rodriguez.

Dominick attended St. Alphonsus School and graduated from St. Stephen's School. He then attended St. Aloysius, graduated from Holy Name of Mary and went on to attend Southeastern and graduate from Tulane University. He worked as an equipment operator then an electrician for many years. He enjoyed his childhood days at Kinglsey House and playing basketball. He was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Belle Chasse for almost 50 years. Dominick never met a stranger. He loved to cook and enjoyed good food. He enjoyed being at his farm and cutting grass. He loved being with his family. But what he loved most was being Papa to his five grandchildren; he never missed a milestone, school event or sporting event for them.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation in his honor from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM on June 14, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Belle Chasse, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery.
