Fred F. Hall, Jr., Retired TD1, U.S. Navy, departed this earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior on March 24, 2026, with his loving wife of 27 years by his side. He was born on December 21, 1948, in Troy, Alabama, to the late Fred F. Hall, Sr. and Margaret Cottle Hall. He spent his early years in Union Springs, Alabama, before answering the call to serve his country in 1969 by enlisting in the United States Navy.
Fred honorably served a distinguished 20-year career in the Navy, completing several tours overseas. In 1989, he retired as a Training Device Technician First Class (TD1), among the last to hold this specialized role, serving with the Commander Naval Air Reserve Force in New Orleans, Louisiana. His military service reflected his dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment to his country.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Margaret Hall, Sr. of Union Springs, Alabama. He is survived by his loving, caring and beautiful wife, JoEllen T. Hall and four precious cats- Punkin, Sweet Pea, Bella and Mr. Noodle. He is the father of Fred F. Hall, III (Valerie), and stepfather of Ivo L. Roberts, III (Stephanie) and Joivon Roberts Brown (Justin). Proud Granddaddy of Angelina, Judah, Josiah, Judge and Jrue Hall, Victoria, Vivian and Luke Roberts and Liam Brown. Fred is also survived by his brother, Charles Austin Hall Sr. (Freda) of Montgomery, Alabama as well as many nephews, and their wives and children, also from Alabama.
Mr. Hall—affectionately known by his beloved JoEllen—was deeply devoted to his church, profession, and community. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he continued his service as an Electronic Technician at the Naval Air Station, Belle Chasse for 11 years. He was a proud and active member of Fleet Reserve Unit #162 in Gretna for over 40 years, as well as the Woodmere Civic Association (WCA). During his time with the WCA, he served as Membership Director before being elected President, a role he held for 15 years. In that capacity, he played a key role in collaborating with the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department to bring the WCA playground from concept to reality—an enduring asset to the neighborhood.
Fred also worked closely with the late Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee through the Citizens on Patrol Program, dedicating 10 years to helping keep the subdivision safe and crime-free.
In his professional life, Fred built a successful career in real estate as a Broker Associate with Martha Ann Samuel Realtors and later Latter & Blum Realtors. In 2001, he began working with Don Bohn Ford in Harvey, Louisiana, where he earned recognition as a Master Certified Sales Consultant and was honored multiple times as Salesman of the Year during his 15-year tenure.
Above all, Fred had a profound love for animals. At one time, he cared for nine cats, each of them cherished equally. He was also committed to helping stray animals—trapping them so they could be spayed or neutered, nurturing them back to health, and then finding them safe and loving homes. His compassion for animals was just one of the many ways he showed kindness and generosity to the world around him.
Memorial Visitation will be held on April 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel beginning at 12:00 pm. Immediately following the service, Fred will be laid to rest in the family plot at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue in Gretna where he will receive Military Honors in recognition of his dedication to his country.
In lieu of flowers, potted plants are appreciated, or Fred requested that donations be made in his memory to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA), supporting efforts to advance research, awareness, and care for those affected by myasthenia gravis.
As his fellow Navy men would say, “Fair winds and following seas,” and “Shipmate, you are relieved. We have the watch.”
