

George Joseph Haydel Jr. passed away on March 20, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late George J. Haydel, Sr. and Bessie Waguespack Haydel. George was was married to Diane Territo Haydel for 56 loving years. Devoted father of George J. Haydel, III (Judith) and Sister Therese Haydel, O.S.B. Proud Grandfather of Dr. Amelia Haydel Stephens (Andrew), Abigail Haydel Broadnax (Ben), and Zachary Haydel. Great grandfather of Benjamin Broadnax, Jr. George was the brother of Robley "Bobby" Haydel (Geneva), Sylvia Hoimberg (Ron), Dr. Michael Haydel (Cindy), Juanita Haas, Dr. Charles Haydel (Mary), and the late Rudolph "Duffy" Haydel, the late James Haydel, the late Kenneth Haydel, and the late Edward "Eddie" Haydel. George is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss him dearly.
George was a resident of Harvey, Louisiana and was raised in Gretna, Louisiana. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph Seminary High School. After high school, George served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. George attended LSUNO and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. In 1969, George married, Diane, the love of his life. He continued his schooling and completed his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at LSU in Baton Rouge. In 1974, he took over ownership of Westside Specialty, Inc. in Harvey, Louisiana. Outside of his work, George had lots of pastimes; those included hunting, gardening, and beekeeping. He loved spending time outdoors even if it was for work. He especially loved spending quality time with his loving family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 924 Monroe Street in Gretna, Louisiana. A visitation will be held at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and will continue on Wednesday morning from 8:30AM until 10:30AM.
George will be laid to rest at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana immediately following the Funeral Mass.
