Jacqueline Pearl Hontiveros Barsana

Jackie was raised and educated in and around the French Quarter with her siblings and cousins who she loved dearly.

She was married to her love, Magdalino “Max” Bogtong Barsana (USN-Ret.), from 1965 until his passing in 2000. After they married, she moved to Newport, Rhodes Island where her husband was stationed before returning to the New Orleans area to live for another 50 + years.

Devoted to family and raising children, she was a stay-at-home mother until her children entered school. Soon after that she became a special educator for over 20 years in Jefferson Parish where she absolutely adored her special needs students. She retired early from her special education career to become a full-time caregiver to her ailing husband.

In retirement, Jackie dove into her passions for music and dance by becoming a dance instructor with the Jamaica Dance Club of New Orleans.

Jackie never met a stranger. She had the gift of gab and would talk your ear off in the best way. She also loved to cook and took great pride in cooking for others.

She is survived by her “darling daughter” and caregiver, Kimberly Barsana, her “baby”, James Barsana (Jennifer), daughters Glenda Maria Barsana and Denise Cordiero; sisters Esperanza “Putsy” Gomez and Pearl Pena; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Rita Brown Hontiveros; father Ramon Hontiveros, Sr.; daughter Christina Goude, and sons Mark “Rocky” Barsana and Michael Barsana; siblings Ramona “Mona” Ramos, Ramon “Junior” Hontiveros, Jr., Salvador “Sal” Hontiveros, and Felipe “Eppie” Hontiveros (Fe).

Jackie also leaves behind her “Forever Friends”, friends, colleagues and students and joins those who preceded her.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 10th, 2025 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana.
