Jeannette Dufrene Matherne

Jeannette Dufrene Matherne of Westwego & Avondale, entered into eternal rest peacefully on February 1, 2026 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Art J. Reneman and Harrington Matherne. Mother of Connie Broadtman (Larry), Ronnie Reneman, Robin Borey (Brett) and the late Carl Reneman (Elizabeth). Daughter of the late Alfred Adam Dufrene and Hilda Camardelle Dufrene. Daughter in law to the late Louis Pelous, Sr. and Ethel Reneman Pelous. Sister of Trudy Morvant (Bobby) and the late Reynold Dufrene (Eva) and Rudy Dufrene (Evelyn). Sister in law to Arthur Pelous (Claudia) and the late Evelyn Dufrene (Rudy), Louis Pelous, Jr. (Argie) and Elaine LeBeau (Louis Ray). Godmother of Melanie Gondolfi.

Grandmother of Gregory J. Smith (Renee), Jamie Stacy (Ben), Jonathan Smith (Jessica), Lauren Layport (Josh), Caitlin Reneman (Brandon) and Chase Reneman. Step-grandmother of Shannon Eschette (Mike), Tracey Baird (Adam) and Mike Borey (Aurora). Jeannette had 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jeannette deeply enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going out dancing and being around people, and she always had a smile on her face. Jeannette attended St. Cletus Mass at Bayside Healthcare Center, where she also took part in many other activities.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Bayside Healthcare Center as well as Anvoi Hospice for their care and support.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Jeannette on Thursday, February 5, 2026 beginning at 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. A Catholic Service will begin at 12:00 PM and burial will immediately follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale.
