John "Johnny" M. Gainey passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 76. Beloved Father of Heidi and Troy (Nicole), Grandfather of Arianne and Dana, and Great Grandfather of Clara Anne and Callianne. He is preceded in death by his parents John O. Gainey and Melodie Schaubhut Gainey, and his siblings Helen Fremin (Late Richard), Joseph "Daniel" (Late Joy), Calvin "Jug" (Carol), Russell (Carol), Lilly "Esther" Mack (Late James), Francis (Deanna), and Lloyd (Claudia). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was born in Algiers, LA, was a longtime resident of Belle Chasse, LA, and a cherished resident of Riverbend Nursing Home. He served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam era.
Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service in the Chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:30 PM.
