

John Edward "Butch" Hanley passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the age of 74. He was the beloved Husband of the late Diane Hanley. Father of Dana Hanley Abadie (James); grandfather of Lacie Abadie, Jade Abadie Martin (Chad), and Kassie Abadie; great grandfather of Kaylie Vicknair, Kylan Slocum, Amrie Slocum, Chad Martin III, and Kade Martin. Son of the late Mildred and Edward Hanley; Brother of Linda Hinton (The late Leroy), Judy Hebert (Sluggo), Michael Hanley Sr. (Susan), Connie Courtney (Dale), and the late Wanda Labat (Gregory).
He was born in New Orleans, and was a lifetime resident of Lafitte. He was a welder by trade, and worked for Chandler Welding, Watts, Mosby Enterprise, and GIS Shipyard. He loved to fish, trawl, cut up, and hang out with his buddies and his family. He could often be found at the video poker machines at Cochiara's Marina. He was also a member of the Lafitte Senior Center. He began life with some major disadvantages, some of which would be lifelong, but rose above them to live a productive and fulfilled life.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point. Express condolences at www.westsideleitzeagan.com.
