

It is with great sadness that our HERO, John D. Patterson Jr., of went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the age of 77. He was surrounded, loved, and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life.
He was born on March 4, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana, but was resident of Gretna, Louisiana for over 50 years. John was married to Cynthia M. Patterson for 50 loving years. Devoted Father of Tina Patterson Hick (Stacy Sr.), Katrina Patterson, and John D. Patterson III. Proud Grandfather of Stacy Hicks, Jr. (Daisy), Drezden Hicks, Layla Patterson, Devin Green, Kailyn Hayes, and Olivia Patterson, along with several great grandchildren. Son of the late John D. Patterson, Sr. and the late Lillian "Lilly" Funck Willoz. Godfather to James "Jim" McGaughey, Melissa Patterson Stafford, and John Jackman. Brother of Cheryl "Chebby" Dufrene (Edwin), Ronnie Patterson (Maria), the late Daniel "Danny Boy" Patterson, and the late Cynthia P. Shano (the late William "Buffa"). John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends who are left to cherish his memory.
John was a very proud United States Marine Corps Veteran; "Once A Marine, Always A Marine". He was also employed for with his second family away from home, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. After 51 years of service, he was able to retire. He loved being a spiritual leader for the inmates at J.P.C.C.
Sgt. John D. Patterson, Jr. - "The Man, The Myth, The Legend" and will always be "A Yard Dog".
John was a role model and was loved by many. He loved to watch football, go fishing, spend time with his cherished family, and attended church daily. He was a faithful parishioner and Eucharistic Minister of St. Cletus Catholic Church. He was known for always helping others before himself. John was always ready to teach others about the word of God, and how much faith he had. He would say "Always Keep The Faith!"
All of our brothers and sisters in blue from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office, our friends and family are all welcomed to attend a memorial visitation from 12:00PM to 1:30PM at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Avenue in Gretna, Louisiana. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:30PM. John will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at Restlawn Cemetery, 3540 Highway 90 in Avondale, Louisiana.
Our family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses, hospice and palliative care team, and Fr. Tom at the Main Campus of Ochsner Medical Center. A special heartfelt "Thanks" to all of our family and friends, and Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home for assistance with the funeral arrangements.
