Johnnie Mae Jeanfreau Vinet, age 84, born October 5, 1941, passed away on December 13, 2025, after battling years of health complications. She was a native of Boothville, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. She worked as a dedicated Merchandiser’s Assistant at JCPenney Belle Promenade for many years. Once she retired, she focused on spending time with loved ones and enjoying her passion for gardening.
She was known to be loving and caring, but also with a sense of humor that she’d sometimes try to hide. She was especially headstrong and stubborn, which helped her to continue to fight for her life over the years. Her strong will to live and unwavering determination to care for her family kept her defying the odds that were against her. Because of this, she is the strongest woman most of us will ever meet. While we mourn our loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and has been reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.
Johnnie was the wife of Steven Larry Vinet (deceased). Daughter of the late John Jeanfreau, the late Ethel Agnes Dugar, and the late Walter Simoneaux, stepfather (deceased). Mother of David (deceased), Allen (deceased), Carla, Ricky (deceased), Tina, Steven Jr. (deceased), and Rose. Sister of Gloria Billiot (deceased), Rose Guthrie (deceased), Lily Kelly (deceased), Lela Jeanfreau (deceased), Dorothy Hebert (deceased), Janice Billiot, Bruce Simoneaux (deceased), Gary Simoneaux, Marcia Ellerbe, and Debra Simoneaux (deceased). Grandmother “Maw Maw” of Ashley, Kayla, Preston, Steven III, Seth, Storm, Macailyn, Brookelyn (deceased), Donna, April, Brittany, Joshua, Mikey, Brandee, Anthony Jacque, Zachary Luke, Alisha, Amanda, Alex, Kammie, Cindy, Blanca, and great-grandmother to many more.
Although Johnnie’s departure leaves an unfillable void in our lives, she will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, located at 5101 Westbank Expressway, in Marrero. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am and committal service will immediately follow at Restlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, in Avondale.
