Judith Elaine Bodden Pereira was born in La Ceiba Honduras on April 15, 1945 to Edward Wilson Bodden and Hortencia Sarrio. Judith departed this life on September 16, 2024 at her home in Terrytown, Louisiana at the age of 79.
Judy grew up in Tela Honduras where she attended the American School. Her summer vacations were spent in Utila with her grandparents and her Aunt Plyla aka Meme.
Her first job was with the United Fruit Company in Tela as a Key Punch Operator. At the age of 18 she decided to make the United States her permanent home with her mother. It was here that she met the love of her life, Bill on Airline Highway in Metairie. She was working at Kitchen-Aid and Bill at Home Finance. They met by chance and it was love at first sight. Judy and Bill dated for two years and were married on January 14, 1966 at her mother's home in Avondale, Louisiana. Together they had three children, Irvin, Mae (Litto), and the late Bill Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonathan, Paul (Ming), Christian and Nicholas and one great-granddaughter, Maya Jones. Her siblings that are left to mourn her are Edward, Gwendolyn, Fanny, Pete and Annie Ann. One sister-in-law Joyce Haylock Bodden and numerous relatives and friends. She was especially close to her Uncle George and her cousins Roland and O'Neil Bodden.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Walter Bodden, Patricia Bodden and Peggy Bodden.
She was a homemaker while her children were growing up, and would later go back to work at Rosie's Dress Shop and then EyeMasters where she worked as a manager until she retired.
Judy was well loved by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who knew her. Her children especially loved and respected her. What Mama said was "The Law". She was always there for us with her loving and kind spirit.
Judy and Bill were inseparable, affectionate and spontaneous. When Bill said "Judy let's go to Pensacola", Judy said "I'm Ready". She could pack the kids and the house all in a Volkswagen. They were and are a wonderful example of what a husband and wife, mother and father should be. They never went to bed angry and they always talked it out before retiring for the night. Together they were there for their children to guide them.
The church was always the most important part of their lives. Raising their children in church was a priority. They were very involved at the Faith Temple Church of God.
The family would like to thank all of you for the calls, texts, messages, visits, food and prayers during this difficult time in our lives. We appreciate the love and support. With love always the Pereira, Sarrio, Woods, Bodden, Jones and Arias family.
To honor her memory a visitation for Judith "Judy" will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA 70072. A church service will begin at 12:30PM in the chapel at Westside/Leitz-Eagan.
