Brother of Glenn Matherne, Terry Matherne (Patricia), Charlotte LeBlanc (late Lanvin), the late Rickey Matherne Sr. (Joyce) and Arthur Matherne. Brother-in-Law of Bruce Autin Sr. (Patricia), Joyce Matherne (late Rickey), and the late Wanda Adam (late Garrell). Son-in-Law of the late Mexime Autin and Virginia "Gin" Autin. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Louis was a commercial fisherman for more than 38 years of his life before spending the last of his years as a professional landman. Although he took pride in a life of hard labor, he was a gentle giant, a humble and caring man, patient and kind hearted, a devoted husband, and a one of a kind father and grandfather. He was full of unlimited sarcasm and dry humor; there was never a minute around him that you weren’t laughing and immediately felt happy - while at the same time finding yourself realizing what a great, genuine man he was. He was most proud of his family. He deeply loved his wife of 50 years, his three children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He devoted his life to his family. Some of his best moments spent in his life were just being with them. He was a loyal friend and loving, caring brother. His most beloved pastime was being in the middle of the open water with a fishing pole in his hand. He loved going to his camp in Toledo Ben to chase his dream of winning big in one of the many bass tournaments he entered.
We will miss your beautiful smile and laughter, along with your unconditional love and protection, every day of our lives. We hope you’re casting your line now into the most beautiful view of your life.
