Back sometime around 1968 Melody was a member of a close knit group of friends in the French quarter (Medody, Me, Ray Cole, Larry Zachow, Janice Bezou and Bode Noonan). I’m sharing a picture of our group. We hung out a lot together in those days.  At one point Ray Cole, Larry Zachow , Melody and I temporarily shared an apartment uptown on top of a bar called The Loser’s Lounge. I’m not kidding. There was an image of dice on the side of the building with the words “Come on in and get lost”. We had so much fun in those days telling people we live on top of the losers lounge. In another period I lived on the second floor of a slave quarter apartment on Dumaine and Melody lived in the apartment above me. I was having some difficult times then emotionally and she with her beautiful loving generous spirit talked me through a situation in which if I made the wrong decision I could have ruined my life. I will be forever grateful to my beautiful Melody.   Anyone who was fortunate enough to have her as a friend will know what I mean.  We lost touch when I left New Orleans. I longed to see her for years and tried desperately to find her. Finally when I did it was too late.  She has touched my life and she will always be in my heart.

Dear Mom,
Here we are on Easter Sunday without you!  Never in a million years did I ever imagine celebrating your birthday and Easter, 2013 without you.  I didn't have it in me to write to you on your birthday...it was just too heartbreaking, but I wanted to wish you a very Happy Birthday and believe you truly had a wonderful one!  I've been praying for strength and guidance to write to you today and to wish you a Happy Easter because I know how much you loved celebrating Easter.  Wow, we certainly have had many wonderful Easter memories, that it's almost unbearable to think there will be no more...I will treasure these memories forever...for those were the good ole days!  Lauren & I looked through the photo album and shared many smiles today, thinking of you.  God knows we love and miss you more than words can say, but we know that you are home now.  I know that you are so very happy to be out of pain and sorry.  You've longed to be with grandmaw and Mr. Heeley for so long that I know you are in the finest of company and that you are happy and safe now.  No more doctors, hospitals, medications, pain, shots, etc.  I know in my heart that you were yearning for this angelic life for a while now.  You deserve to be pain-free and at peace and for that I am thankful that your suffering has ended.  I know that you will watch over and protect and guide me and Lauren, but please know that you will be in our hearts forever and you are missed so very much.  How I wish we had more time with you, but I do understand that you had to go when God called you.  I'm sure you know that we are doing okay and that your animals have all been placed in wonderful, loving homes and are very happy and content. Your wish has come true for Chanelli, ColdCut and Medo!  They have made new friends and are loving their new homes. I know they miss you too!  Well, that's all for now...I'll be talking to you again very soon and thank you for listening...for I know you have been.  While I cannot see you, I certainly can feel you and will love you forever!

Ms. Melody, thank you for being such a good friend to my mom throughout the past years. She depended on you more than I think you know, and all you did for her will not be forgotten. I always loved seeing you when you came to visit; I know we always didn't talk too much, but  you were one of the kindest, gentlest people I knew. I am so sorry that you're gone but I know you are peaceful and here with my family always.

Miss Melody...It was my pleasure spending time with you and getting to know you over the last several years while I worked on your hair. You had such a big heart and were such a caring, kind and giving person that I eventually began to consider you to be a dear friend of mine. If something bothered you, as your stylist, I knew about it. We talked about everything. I came to know you so well. If there is a heaven for good souls I know you are already there. Mrs. Melody my heart feels heavy for you & your family. I actually came on here to read my lil girls dad's obituary who passed on the same day, & when I saw your name I was in disbelief. I'm gonna miss seeing you & Mrs. Starr at the office & joking around with yall & giving you compliments on your hair. You were such a sweet woman. Mel,I don't know where to begin.  How do I pay tribute to my best friend. I met you in 1984 when someone gave me your name and number cause I had a mama cat in distress. I soon realized that you were a true animal activist  Not only did you talk the talk but you walked the walk.  Your courage amazed me.  Although they couldn't speak, you gave them a voice. You gave selflessly and expected nothing in return.  Your reward was knowing that an animal had been saved.  To say you were a loyal friend would be a understatement.  You kept my secrets, listened to my fears and always made me laugh with your dry wit. Recently you told me you would take a bullet for me.  I hope you know that I would do the same. Our souls will meet again, my beloved friend.  Starr
