Michael “Uncle Mike” John Matherne, Sr., beloved husband of the late Gwendolyn Cheramie Matherne of 38 years. Loving father of Michael John Matherne, Jr. (Stacey). Son of Opal Ann Pizani Matherne and the late Lawrence John Matherne. Brother of Sandra Matherne Otero (E. J.), Marion Matherne, Kim Matherne Fazende (Mike). Godfather of Michelle Fazende and Tanna Boudreaux. Uncle of Tina Blanchard, Toby Otero, Murphy Walton, Jr., Angelle Painter, Michelle Fazende, David Fazende, Kim Guidry, Debra Tassin, Rhonda Boudreaux, Toni Ronquille, Dawn Matherne, Desiree Cambre, Doreen Coulon, Joe LaFrance, Jay LaFrance, Glenda Cheramie, Tracy Duhon, and Glen Cheramie, Jr. He is survived by his God-parents, Josephine Smith and Eddie Sapia, Jr.

He is also survived by host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Age 61, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a lifelong resident of Lafitte, Louisiana.

“Uncle Mike” was a member of Backlashers Bass Club and an employee at Roy’s Auto Tech for many years. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lafitte, Louisiana on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 am. Visitation from 9:00 am until Mass time. Interment will be private at a later date.
