Michael David Sandras

Michael David Sandras, age 47, passed away September 11, 2011. Native of Westwego, LA and resident of Marrero, LA for the past 11 years. Beloved husband of Constance Scott Sandras. Loving father of Arianna Celeste Sandras. Son of the late Linies “Bully” Pascal Sandras, Jr. and Inez Bouquet Sandras. Brother of Mrs. Frederick “Linda” Coulon. Also survived by nieces, Donna Anthony, Rebecca Gray, Leslie Jenkins, and Rochelle Jenkins. Mr. Sandras worked as Planetarium Director for the Rivertown museums in Kenner, LA, astronomy lab instructor at the University of New Orleans, and managed the observatory in Gretna, LA. Mr. Sandras was a member of the Pontchartrain Astronomy Society, Baton Rouge Astronomical Society, Southeastern Planetarium Association, and Astronomical Society. Mr. Sandras is proud to have had Asteroid 18434 named, Mikesandras, named in his honor for his work in the planetarium field. Mr. Sandras served as NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors to the state of Louisiana. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend services at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5105 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, on Tuesday evening, September 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday morning, September 14, 2011 beginning at 9:00 a.m. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to the National Kidney Foundation.
