Roger was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church Parish in Marrero, Louisiana. Roger was the oldest of 10 children. In 3rd grade, he ended his education to work and help support his family. He was self-taught in the Field of Life. Roger loved the water, he loved to fish and what started out as a life of trawl boats and being a deckhand, led him into 60 years working and teaching as a Tugboat Captain. He was one of the best in the industry. After his retirement, he and his lovely wife of 68 years, enjoyed dancing with their Cajun dance group and spending time with family and friends.
Roger was blessed in so many ways with loving caregivers, Xiomara Cardec (Meme), who made sure Roger was taken out of his bed, which was not an easy task. He said that she gave the best baths. Angie Santiago, whose
expertise in caring for Parkinson’s patients, was clearly seen while Angie cared for my Roger so lovingly. Jaime Jackson, who Roger said made the best hamburgers and was very patient and caring. Cristina Jackson (Karaoke), who could make Roger laugh and made sure that he was always clean, comfortable and fed. Colleen Angelica, who would feed Roger and helped Rosemae clean the house, Ana Mancos, his neighbor and best friend who gave tirelessly of herself, spending 7 nights per week on the couch to care for Roger. Roger’s Daughter-in-law, Mary, who prepared some of Roger’s favorite foods. Jerry Jensen, his son-in-law, who would bathe, shave and cut Roger’s hair, as well as listen and talk to Roger for hours. Zach Shields, Roger’s great nephew, who took care of the lawn for months. These caregivers not only cared for Roger but also his loving wife, Rosemae. Roger was also blessed to have wonderful neighbors, Aunt Dolores Adams (Butch), Cathy Parfait (Charles), Jesse Mancos (Ana). Special thanks to Roley Barthelemy for all the trips he made to make sure they had water and many other special treats. Patrick Volpi, who never hesitated to come when he was needed to repair the A/C or bring Roger ducks. There were so many others that he was blessed to have in his life in time of need, thank you all.
We would like to thank Heart of Hospice, especially, Shelly Blanchard (Roger’s Godchild), Dr. Charles Simonson and all of his wonderful nurses and staff. We would also like to thank Notre Dame Hospice and staff at Wynhoven Health Care Center for their care and compassion.
