On July 19, 1960, Sheldon married his beloved wife Marguerite “Margie” Manning Freeman, who preceded him in death and whom he loved and adored deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clair Rodemann Freeman and Walter Freeman; his twin Jaqueline Rauch; and his brother George Mayer.
Sheldon lived by the belief that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Though he had little, his generosity knew no bounds. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a unique soul who would help anyone in need. Sheldon had an infectious personality that would light up any room with his jokes and quirky storytelling. He loved dancing, music, singing and passionately complaining about the Saints and politics. He also enjoyed watching TV, chatting on the phone with family, and spending time with friends. Sheldon had a deep love for animals and was always ready to take in a stray.
Sheldon is survived by his daughters, Michelle Maher (Kevin), and Yvette Thomas (Marc Rabun); son, Sheldon Freeman Jr. (Sara); grandchildren, Keely, Hailey (Jake), Hunter, Olivia, Eric, and Lee; great-grandchildren, Brody and Eleanor; brother, Winston Freeman; and sister, Sylvia Bodenheimer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout his long and full life, Sheldon touched many hearts. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through the stories shared by those who knew him best.
