

Born Jo Anne Clark on the 22nd of August 1953 in Butler Pennsylvania to Mr. and Mrs. Glenmore Clark. Jo was one of five siblings, her early years had her attending Butler Catholic School and later graduating from Butler Senior High School in 1971.
Later that year she met her future husband Thomas B Howe, and they were married on the 24th of August 1974. They began their Army married life at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Over the next 27 years, she orchestrated moving her family 14 times to military posts across the United States as well as to Germany and Korea. Jo became the consummate Army Wife who could handle any situation with ease and aplomb. Jo was recipient of the Artillery Order of Molly Pitcher for outstanding support to the Field Artillery Community at Fort Sill, as well as the Commander Award for Public Service to the Military Police School at Fort McClellan. She had two children, Laura Ann, and Jason Campbell. Jo obtained an associate degree in child development, her work in the childcare arena culminating with being the Director of the Oakbrook Country Day School in Martinez.
Upon retirement Colonel and Mrs. Howe stayed in the Augusta area, where Jo became regularly active at St Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic church. She served as the Council President for the Council of Catholic Women at St Teresa from 2005 to 2008. During this period, she was also the Augusta Deanery President. She served as Lady Auxiliary President for 2012-2013 for Knights of Columbus Council 8495. Never one to say no, she provided help and assisted anyone who asked, she was a dedicated worker as well as a resolute and faithful friend.
Jo excelled at sewing and crafts of all kinds, whether it was making signs for a raffle or cloth bags for the Isaiah Cups or making tote bags to give to folks. She loved sewing and had a highly creative mind. Her craft room was always full of materials, projects and sewing machines.
Jo is survived by her husband, Colonel (Ret) Thomas Howe, her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Ann and Luis Mayorquin and her son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Melody Howe, along with grandchildren, Autumn, Stoic and Magnus. She is further survived by her sisters Gwendolyn Gilliland, Christina Ernest, and her brother Ronnie Clark. She is preceded in death by her parents, Glenmore and Irene Clark and her brother Robert Clark.
There will be a viewing at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Columbia Road, Martinez on the evening of the 1st of August from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Columbia Road on Friday the 2nd of August at 9:30 AM followed by interment at Westover Memorial Park, Wheeler Road, Augusta GA. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations in her name to St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church Building Fund.
