
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 13, at 12:30 p.m. following the morning worship service at Marvin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elizabeth Ackerman officiating.
“Mac” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was a retired journeyman electrician who worked in Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and Florida before moving to Martinez.
One of his greatest accomplishments was serving as teacher for the Mildred Walton Sunday School Class for more than 25 years. He spent many hours researching and praying in preparation for the weekly lesson.
Mac had real zest for life and lived every moment to its fullest. His life was testimony to all who knew and loved him.
Born Aug. 10, 1926, Mac was preceded in death by his parents Katie and Earl Cox of the Staunton, Virginia, area of the Shenandoah Valley; his first wife, Eve Cox of Martinez; brothers, Lester Earl Cox of Vero Beach, Fla., Raymond Cox of Windsor, N.Y., Claude Cox of Apopka, Fla., and Plaistow, N.H., Cecil Cox of Miami, Fla., and Wade Cox; and a sister, Mae Prindle of Athens, Ala.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of five years, Mary Kelly Cox; a brother, Glen Cox of Miami; nieces, Ellen Cox of Grovetown, Ga., and Sandra Riley of Athens, Ala., and Stella Prindle-Middleton of Falkland Islands, South Atlantic; step children, Bonnie Taylor and husband Eddie of Waynesboro, Ga., Sam Kelly and wife Angie of Greenville, S.C., and Caroline Hall and husband Jim of Manchester, N.H.; and host of other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. William R. Kitchens and the nursing staff of the University Health Care System Heart & Vascular Institute for their professionalism and compassionate care while Mac was a patient at the hospital.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Marvin United Methodist Church, 4400 Wheeler Road, Martinez, GA 30907 or to the charity of one’s choice.
