He was born on January 22, 1941, in Plymouth, Devon, England to Doris and John
Woodbridge. John was the oldest of five children and an inherent caregiver. From a young age, he worked hard to help provide support to his parents and siblings. Upon completion of secondary school, John began an apprenticeship with his grandfather learning the trade of machinery. This developed into a lifelong career, where he became a technical expert in the manufacture of precision cutting tools. This expertise culminated in serving as the International Sales Director for Greenfield Industries in Augusta, GA.
John’s career took him all over the globe and led him to live in Ireland, Canada, and the United States. He loved traveling and experiencing new cultures, and these experiences created an endless supply of captivating stories. Anyone who has ever met John will tell you what an amazing storyteller he was, whether it was about ghosts visiting him in English hotels, a bathtub full of salmon that he and his buddies caught in Ireland, or a rundown of the exotic foods he tried while walking through markets in Asia.
While storytelling was an undeniable skill of John’s, he had many ways he loved to pass the time. John could spend hours waiting for that big catch on his fishing line or cultivating his garden so everyone could enjoy some fresh vegetables. John’s nightstand always held a healthy supply of action novels, and he couldn’t resist sitting down to watch a sci-fi movie or a scandalous courtroom TV drama. A day by the pool wasn’t complete without his portable speaker, and it wasn’t officially Christmas morning until the Vienna Boys’ Choir was blaring through the house.
Above all else, John cherished and loved his family. John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joan; his children Michael, David (Renee), Brian, Alan (Sylvaine), Hayley (Mason), Brandy (Coleman), Mark, Mike, and Martin; his ten grandchildren; and his siblings Sheila (Roger), Terry, Eileen (David), and David (Julia).
Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
