

Mary Jo Peters of Martinez, Ga., went into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, January 28, 2018 after a long struggle with dementia and Alzheimers. Mary Jo was born in Heidelheimer, Texas in 1923 to W.C Jackson and Nora Brashear Jackson and had two older brothers.
Mary Jo was an accomplished seamstress and later a talented artist. She spent countless hours at different volunteer positions within her church and with the 700 Club in Norfolk, Virginia. In her 50’s, after her children were grown, Mary Jo obtained her real estate license and sold real estate in the Washington D.C. area and also taught English as a Second Language to the wives of South Korean diplomats.
Having lived all over the East Coast during her lifetime, Mary Jo settled in Martinez after her 3rd husband died. She was very proud of her Texas roots and let everyone know that she was a 5th generation Texan. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents, brother George Jackson, infant son Robert Edward Jones and three loving husbands. She is survived by son Homer William (Bill) Jones III (Suzanne) of Reno, NV; son Lee Jones (Betty) of Franklin, TN; and Julie Cox of Hephzibah, GA and brother Wilton (Margery) Jackson of Lake Oswego, OR.
Also surviving her are grandchildren Tarren Jones of Henderson, NV; Christine (Gordon) Shales of Morgan Hill, CA; James (Michelle) Jackson of Mission Viejo, CA; Carey (Amanda) Jones of Olathe, KS; Evan (Whitney) Jones of Charlottesville, VA; Jessica Kendall of Hephzibah, GA; Patricia (Edward) Garza of Grovetown, GA; and Joshua Kendall and his partner Ronnie Akins of Appling, GA. Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Thursday, February 1st at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd, Martinez GA 30907, with Forrest Page officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will be in Falls Church, Virginia at a later date.
The family is especially grateful to the staff and caregivers of Elmcroft Senior Living/Heartland Village and MSA Hospice for their loving care of Mary Jo.
