

Born in Energy, TX in 1925, he was the son of the late Paul Davis and Nettie DeMary Thompson-Davis.
At the age of 17, Melvin quit school and served in the US Marine Corps during WW2. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds at Iwo Jima while serving with C-1-28, 5th Marines. In 1961, he served with the U.S Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later served with the US Army from 1961 to 1979, during the Vietnam War. During 3 tours, he was awarded the Bronze Star, and multiple Air Medals. He served multiple tours in Europe where he was awarded an Army Meritorious Commendation. Over his military career he was awarded 6 Army Good Conduct Awards, and 1 Marine Corps Good Conduct award.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Davis; his four children, James Earl Davis (Mary) of Houston, TX, Randy Davis (Jeanette) of Fort Worth, TX, Paul Davis (PB) (Late Sandy) of Fort Worth, TX and Mary-Lou Keating (Jerry) of Fort Worth, TX; four step-children, Brett Christian (Sharon), Pamela Rawlings (Kevin), Darren Tesseo (Trisha) and Larry Tesseo; seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Enrique) Garcia, James, Mary Kate, Anna, Jason, Paul Barrom Jr. and Suzette; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, Sabian, Gehrig, Logan, Richard, Chevelle, Madison, Emily, Marcus, and Tamara; ten great-grandchildren; sister in law, Faye Taylor-Davis of San Saba, Texas; thirteen nephews and six nieces.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his brothers TJ Davis (Trudy), Richard Davis (Ava), Everett Davis (Ebb) and his sisters Ora Belle (Joe Kennedy), and Kewpie (J. Lee Daniel).
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, December 29, 2014 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Thigpen officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Fairburn, Adrian Montgomery, James Newman, Mark Crawford, Dennis Trudeau and Tom Lacount.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral Monday.
