He was born in Jajpur, Orissa in India and was a resident of Augusta, Georgia for 36 years. Professor Mohanty received his PhD from the University of Georgia and touched countless lives as a dedicated educator and as an advocate for senior citizens in the CSRA and beyond. He was a distinguished professor of Sociology at Paine College for 35 years and served in numerous leadership roles.
Professor Mohanty is survived by his loyal and loving wife, Nirupama, his adoring children Bibek (Purbasha), Nivedita (Brooks), and Namita (Humberto), and beloved grandchildren Manav and Devam.
He was preceded in death by his dear parents, Nateswar and Malati Mohanty, and his brothers Rama and Mahendra Mohanty.
Funeral Services will take place 3 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on 4255 Columbia Road, Augusta, GA.
