Richard J. Gamble Sr.,76, of Evans, Georgia, entered into rest after a long battle with myelofibrosis and eventually kidney failure on April 22, 2024. His loving wife of 39 years, Gabriele Gamble, along with his children and their families, were by his side.
Richard was born to the late Bryant and Marie Gamble on August 20, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan. In his early twenties he joined the Army where he served from 1968-1990. He notably completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. Afterward he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne division, where his love for “jumping out of perfectly good airplanes” developed. In 1990 he retired from the armed forces as a Sergeant First Class and continued to work for an additional 25 years in Civil Service, both in Germany and the United States.
Richard was very passionate about the Catholic Church, particularly St. Teresa of Avila, where he would volunteer and participate in church events as a member of the Knights of Columbus. His love for life and all of God’s creation didn’t stop there; he loved being physically active, working in the yard (his office), trying to get to the end of the honey-do list, and keeping his koi fishpond in tip-top condition. He loved going bowling with his family on Fridays, traveling the world with his wife, watching action movies with his kids, and most importantly, spending time with his granddaughter, Lauren. Richard was known for being a fantastic teacher and listener, for having a kind heart and soul, and providing wisdom and grace when needed most. Richard was cherished by all that knew him and will be missed immensely.
Richard is survived by his wife, Gabriele; his two children: Denise (Christopher) and Richard Jr. (Jessica); his granddaughter, Lauren; his siblings: Vannice (Alecia), Uzell (Dedrie), and Wendy; and a host of family and friends both in the States and Germany.
