

EVANS, Ga. - Mr. Richard Henry Riley III, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and uncle, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA. The Reverend Race Lariscy will officiate. Mr. Riley is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ann Schwarz (Gary); his sons, Richard H. Riley IV (Cheryl) and Shawn Riley; his brother, Reverend Robert W. Riley; his sister, Mrs. Rebecca Thomas, as well as eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Riley was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Richard H. Riley, Jr. and Mrs. Mozelle Tolley, his step-father, Mr. Willard Tolley, and his sister, Mrs. Joyce R. Holt. Mr. Riley was a native of Augusta and a life-long member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church. He served his country with distinction and honor as a member of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army during the Occupation of Japan and the Korean War from 1947 to 1954. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, UN Svc Medal, Merit Unit Citation, National Defense Svc Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Following military service, Mr. Riley made his home in Augusta, where he dedicated 25 further years of his life to public service with the U.S. Civil Service as a firefighter at Bush Field Airport and Fort Gordon, GA. He was an avid reader, amateur historian and political scientist, and always thoroughly enjoyed engaging his family and friends in discussing history and politics.
