

Captain Van Louis Johnson, Jr. (Ret.), 90, of Grovetown, Georgia passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013. He was an avid movie fan, loved John Wayne, enjoyed fishing, golfing and collecting various memorabilia. He was a devoted and pampered family man, Georgia Bulldogs fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Dr. Johnson retired from the US Navy after 30 years of dedicated service. He also was a retired Dental Professor at Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Johnson was preceded in death by two wives, Evalena Fry Johnson and Clare Jeanne Livingston Johnson; and daughter, Beverly Sue Moore.
Pop is survived by his six children, Val Schoeller, Kris Johnson, Blair Johnson, Whitney (David) Ondike, Van Johnson III and David (Kim) Johnson; 15 grandchildren, Abe, Brad, Shannon, Kyle, Brandon, Nick, April, Biff, Ella, Noah, Cody, Kalan, Alexander, Zach and Ben; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Lou (Bob) Patterson; and longtime friend and companion, Peggy Evans.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Bradford officiating. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery.
