Wanda grew up in Winston-Salem, NC, the youngest of three children, her parents, Edward E and Rosa Lee Berrier Williams, being 43 years old when she was born. She was Salutatorian of her high school graduating class in 1951. A talented pianist from her childhood, she performed with choirs at many different church congregations in her community. She belonged to the Moravian Church (the United Brethren) before she and Ewell became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1965.
Although afflicted with illness and serious cancers during the course of her life, her Patriarchal blessing, in 1968, promised her a long life.
She was an active church member who served in many teaching and leadership capacities in the Ward, Stake and Temple, played the piano and organ for church meetings and choirs as well as supporting Ewell in his many church leadership callings.
Wanda loved homemaking. Her cross-stitch samplers filled the home. She was an excellent cook, loved shopping, was always dressed “tres chic”, filled her life with music and was entirely devoted to her family; from her aged parents to her grandchildren. She was a talented organizer and loved routine. Considered gentle and ladylike by all who knew her, she was a wonderful friend, known affectionately as "Granny" to her family. She will be missed until she welcomes us again, but until then, we know she is still nearby.
There will be no services per Wanda's request. She will be buried next to her parents in Oaklawn Cemetery, Winston-Salem, NC later this week.
