Charlie and his family were long term Beltsville residents. He attended Chestnut Hills Elementary, Beltsville Junior High, and High Point High School. He and his family also attended Emmanuel Methodist Church in Beltsville, and the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church. Charlie was active in scouts and played the saxophone in his school bands. The family enjoyed annual vacations, driving to visit relatives and enjoy the national parks.
Charlie went on to attend the University of MD at College Park for his Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, and UMBC for his Master’s degree in curriculum design. He spent many years teaching math at the high school and middle school levels. Charlie was an avid NASCAR fan and a classic car and motorcycle enthusiast. Charlie was the ultimate DIYer, building everything from doll furniture to full kitchen and bathrooms.
Most recently, Charlie lived in Martinsburg, WV where he enjoyed his job as a commercial truck driver and attended Crossroads Church.
Charlie is survived by his much-loved daughters Jenna (son in law, Muhammed), Alyssa (son in law, Ryan), and grandchildren Aria and Kaia. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn (brother-in-law, Jim), his uncle Elmo, and cousins Janet, Mary, David (Sue), Danny (Crystal), Alan (Heather), and Kara (Jeff) .
Charlie’s life came to an unexpected end after years of increasing personal struggles that affected many people and the ultimate outcome of his life and accomplishments. We encourage anyone struggling with difficult thoughts or feelings to reach out for support.
At this time, no public services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory can be made to cars4heroes.org
