Curtis served in our US Army, where he was known as "The Hammer" and fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, where he earned two Purple Hearts and Two Silver Stars. He was an Army Ranger, a member of the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne Divisions and reluctantly retired as an E9 in 1972 after suffering severe injuries in Vietnam. He was also employed by Citizen's National Bank, Hutzler Oil Company, Panhandle 76 Auto/Truck Plaza, and the Veteran's Administration Hospital during his post-military career.
