Ellis B. Linder passed away at his home in Augusta, Maine, on 08/18/2010 at the young age of 78 following a brief illness. He was born in Midvale, Idaho on 05/13/1932. He was predeceased by his wife Grace J. Linder (Mom) of 53 years in May 2006. He is survived by his two sisters Letha Worley and Retha Pearson, both of Payette, Idaho and many loved nieces and nephews.
Ellis (Dad) had a variety of enriching experiences in his life. From working in a creamery, serving in the Korean war to retiring from the Immigration Service in Washington, D.C. Moving from the West coast to the East with plenty of relocations in between, Toronto, Montreal, Arizona, to name a few, gave us all an unique opportunity to live in diverse cultures. Our family unit became even closer due to those frequent moves.
Dad was also very creative, especially in wood working. From making bird houses, balsam wood model airplanes, Adirondack chairs and intricate carvings on walking sticks made from vines he would find on his many walks in Caledonia State Park.
He loved being outside spending time with his family, cutting our own Christmas trees ,fishing ,and Mom would cook the trout for dinner. He and Mom took special pride in their yard and gardens. And rides, he loved to take us all on rides. He was Kathy and Carl’s chief lawn mower… look out sumac and lilacs, they never had a fighting chance!!!!
He had a great sense of humor and we would always have a “surprise” of some sort when we would visit. Yellow caution tape strung throughout the house, hidden desserts, notes warning us not to eat their food, plastic ants in your bed…he was quite the prankster. And he could cook!! His specialty being maple glazed ribs and lemon angel pie.
He found so much joy and fullness with his family. He was so proud to boast about his children, his 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He had a wonderful visit in 2009 with his family in Idaho whom he dearly loved. Dad will be missed immensely, but knowing he is with Mom and their loved ones, offers comfort.
P.S. Dad…we’ll see you in the future! We love and miss you!!
