

Born September 20, 1932, in Martinsburg, WV to the late Clyde and Helen McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his four siblings brother Robert, Ken, Jack and sister Elaine.
He graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1950. He served in the Navy for four years and was part of the initial acceptance of the USS Forrestal. He worked as an upholster at Armstrong Furniture in Martinsburg, and then Shop Foreman at Berkeley Furniture until he retired in 1994. He also owned an upholstery business with clients all over the tri-state area. He finally hung up his hammer and scissors in 2020 at the age of 88.
A beloved Husband, Dad and Pap, he is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy McDaniel and three children, Ginny Whipp (husband, Joe Whipp) Dana Gardner and Mark McDaniel. He was blessed with four grandchildren; Keith Gardner (wife Amber Gardner), Ciara Whipp, Jackson McDaniel and Seth McDaniel and two great grandchildren; Brayden and Connor Gardner He loved to treat his family to a Myrtle Beach vacation and did so for 20 years.
Elzie will be remembered by many as a man who never met a stranger, as he would strike up a conversation wherever he wandered. He was a sports fan through and through; he umpired Little League at Oakdale Park for many years,coached softball at Charolette Prather Park and attended too many local football games to count. He attended his last MHS football game in September 2024.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, January 20 from 5-7 PM at Rosedale Funeral Home. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday January 21 at 1 PM with burial to follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
