Elsie Louise Bishop, 68, passed peacefully on March 2, 2026, at Hospice of the Panhandle, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 22, 1957, to Elston and Isabelle Hess. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Linda “Nin” Williamson (Earl), Mary Caniford, Pete Hess (Marie), and Isabelle “Sue” Renner and her grandson, Troy Michael Bishop. She is survived by her husband, David Bishop Sr, her brother Harry “Buddy” Hess, her children, Lauri Dozier (Chris), David Bishop Jr, Earl Michael Bishop (Kim), and her grandchildren; Aneyla Dozier, Isabelle Dozier, Banner Bishop, and Kinsley Bishop, and many other family members including tons of nieces and nephews. She loved her sister-in-law’s and nieces as if they were her own sisters.
Throughout the past year, even as she faced cancer, Elsie continued to care for everyone around her. Even when she was hurting, she made sure others were okay. Loving and caring for her family wasn’t a task, it was the very essence of who she was. Her grandchildren were her heart, and she poured her love into them with a tenderness all her own. She also made lifelong friends and touched countless co‑workers, often sharing stories about the people who meant something to her.
Elsie worked hard, loved even harder, and carried more than most ever realized. She did it all with grace, resilience, and a heart that never stopped giving. We will miss her commentary, her protectiveness, her laughter, and the way she always made sure everyone was ok.
The family will welcome visitors at Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg on Friday, March 13th, from 6–8 pm.
