
James Charles Mitchell, 89, of Gerrardstown, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 in Care Haven Center, Martinsburg.
Born on August 8, 1922 in Pleasant Shade, TN, he was the son of the late Norman B. and Annie L. (Matthews) Mitchell.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army.
He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus St. Leo Council #10756.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Willard Draper Mitchell, Henry Hollis Mitchell, Robert Benton Mitchell, and Art Wayne Mitchell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Genevieve A. (Farrell) Mitchell; daughters, Janet Mitchell Hume, and her husband Richard J. Hume, of Lindenhurst, NY, and Jeri Mitchell Watson, and her husband Max E. Watson, of Inwood; grandchildren, Leah Watson Carrico, James E. Watson, Michael J. Hume, Jessica Hume O’Brien, and husband Scott, and Heather Watson Powers, and husband Michael; great grandchildren, Austin M. Carrico, Kellen Powers, and due to be born in March 2012 great-granddaughter O’Brien.
Friends will be received 7-9 PM, Monday, November 21, 2011 at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Rosedale Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard J. Hume, James E. Watson, Austin M. Carrico, Michael E. Powers, Phillip A. Lester, and James Parrish. Honorary Pallbearers will be Max E. Watson, Lester E. Hellem, and Eugene G. Belger.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association West Virginia Chapter, 1111 Lee St., East, Charleston, WV 25301.
