Jay Carper Kerns

Born on September 8, 1963, in Winchester, Jay was the beloved son of the late Betty “Carper” Kerns and Marshall Eugene Kerns. Known for his big heart, quiet strength, and steadfast loyalty to those he loved, Jay lived a life rooted in family, passion, and the simple joys of everyday moments.

Jay had a lifelong love of NASCAR, football, and classic cars — especially anything Ford. His appreciation for the roar of an engine and the excitement of race day was matched only by his devotion to those around him.

He is survived by his cherished son, Cody A. Kackley; two loving sisters, Marsha Hardman and Lisa Pressutti, along with her husband Reggie. Jay also leaves behind his nephews Robert (Rob) Jones, Ronald (Ron) Kerns, Aaron L. Kerns, and Ryan W. Kerns; his niece Jessica Reckart-Wilfong; and several aunts, uncles, and extended family members who will remember him fondly.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Kerns.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jay’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
