

Margaret Virginia (Nena) Grantham, 93-year-old, beloved wife, mother, and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 11, 1931, in Shepherdstown, WV, Peggy's journey was one of unwavering dedication, faith, and compassion.
A pillar of her community, Peggy dedicated her life to serving her God and others. She has been a lifetime member of AUMC where she served on several committees, boards and was an active member of the Sunday School.
Peggy was a 1950 Page Jackson High School graduate where she Lettered as a member of the 1948 Women's Basketball Team. Peggy was also a member of the Tuesday Club, The Rose Hill Cemetery Board, The Modern Maids and Matron's Club, The Odd Eleven Club, and The Sisterhood Club. Peggy received The Caring American Award on behalf of The Help Hospitalized Veterans Organization in 2001, The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Star Employee with The Good Shepherd Caregivers in 2012, The Full Steam Ahead Life Coaching and Mentoring Award in 2013, The WV Salute to Senior Service Award (recognizes seniors for their impact they make in their communities) in 2014, The Jefferson County NAACP Humanitarian Award for exemplary dedication and work in the community in 2015, was The Jefferson County African American Culture and Heritage Festival and Parade Grand Marshall in 2016, and she also provided Volunteer Services at the Jefferson County Anna M. Reedy Senior Center.
As a passionate homemaker for over four decades, she inspired countless minds and nurtured the dreams of generations. Her commitment to excellence extended beyond the home, as she tirelessly advocated for equal opportunities and fairness for all. Peggy loved playing Pinochle and much gratitude goes to Monroe, Pat, and Charles. Peggy received numerous honors but one that she was most proud of was being named WV Volunteer of the Year for her work with The Good Shepherds Interfaith of Shepherdstown. Beyond her professional endeavors, Peggy was a devoted family woman. She cherished every moment spent with her husband of 60 years, Edmond, and their children, Francine (Charlie), Sandra (Kirk), Curtis (Carla), and Gary (Sandie). Peggy was also a 5 Generation Mother, and her memories will be fondly cherished by her grandchildren, Troy, Keia, Krista, and Garrett (Brooke), Natalie (Aubrey), Geordy, Sierra, Andre' (Angie); Her great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Alyssa, Aniya, Asia, Amara, C.J., Shy'Ziir, Saige, Mekhi, Onyx, Zendaya, Gia Rose, Kierra, Rae, Carly and Alayah; Her great-great grandchildren, Brycen, Zariah, Zuri, Alani, Jaxtyn, Kensley, Malachi, Amina and Kingston; and Brother-in-Law, Minister Cletus Grantham. Her love knew no bounds, and her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in their hearts forever.
Peggy has cherished relationships and leaves loving memories with her Cousin/Foster Brother and Sister, Clarence (Janice) Branson, Goddaughter, Kiana Weller, Foster Daughter, Cindy Brown, Special Maiden Lane Family... you know who you are, love to Chicken (Chuckie) from Dr. Seuss, her Cut Buddy, Melissa, Card Party Partners, Dana & Judy, and the many more of you that are too numerous to be able to list all.
Heaven's gates have already opened and received her husband, Charles "Pappy E" Edmond, daughter, Irene "Pete", her mother, Dora M. Washington, father, Gilmore Robinson, brother, Wallace Smith, great-granddaughter, Aviana, great-great grandson, Hendrix and great-great granddaughter Kambrie.
In addition to her family, Peggy leaves behind a legacy of service and compassion that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her impact on the lives of others is immeasurable, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all to strive for a better world. Peggy "Nena" will be deeply missed but never forgotten!
