Robert Sawyer

Robert Sawyer, 66 of Martinsburg, passed away at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, in Martinsburg, West Virginia on June 24th 2021. Robert was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on October 21, 1954 to late Isabel Sawyer and late Robert Lee Sawyer.

Robert attended school in Orange, New Jersey and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Thomas A. Edison State University. Robert served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserve and received an honorable discharge for his faithful service.

Robert worked as Senior Salesperson for Westway Ford/Irvtex Irving, Texas for ten years during which time he earned salesperson awards and acknowledgments including, Top 50 in USA for Isuzu Sales, Top 10 in USA Western Region for Subaru Sales, Top 1000 in USA for Ford Sales and the Ford Sales Platinum Ring. Robert worked as a manager, but also an entrepreneurial spirit who owned and operated Automotive Complete Credit Counseling in Irving, Texas for six years.

Robert enjoyed spending time with family, especially with his departed parents & aunts and siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was affectionately called Popo by family members and Dameon by friends and fraternity brothers. Robert throughout his life enjoyed martial arts, swimming, card games, chess, pool, music, drawing, photography, driving a variety of vehicles from motorcycles to 4x4, and teaching and helping the others. Robert was also a proud member of the Fraternity Omega Psi Phi.

Robert is survived by one daughter, Alisha Sawyer and six siblings Barbara Smith (David Sr.), Marnatta, Audrey McCrary (Gregory Sr.), Ralph (Beryl), Shari Scott Reese, Olivia Sawyer-Hunter (Henry Jr.), a host of nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Aaron Sawyer, his mother and father.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Robert Sawyer’s name to American Diabetes Association.
