Jessie Clyde Roark, 87, of Martinsville, went to his heavenly home, August 24, 2019. He was born in Patrick County, March 21, 1932 to Clyde and Hadie Hutchens Roark. Shirley Mabe Roark, his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, is left to cherish his memory. Also surviving are twin daughters, Stacie R. Monday (Clarence) of Surfside Beach, SC and Tracie R. Matthews (Mark) of Wake Forest, NC, and Shirley Karen Roark of Florida; grandsons (the highlight of his life), Chad Jessie Monday, Dylan Mark and Brandon Joseph Matthews; sister, Ruth R. Handy and a special sister-in-law, Shirley D. Roark; nieces and nephews, Wendell and Carolyn Handy, Timmy and Sheila Handy, Lisa and Don Laliberty, Jeff and Candace Roark, Rusty Roark, Jamie and Pam Roark, Randy and Angela Steele. In addition to his parents, Jessie was preceded in death by brothers, Rayford and Herman Roark and sister, Ilene Pittis; father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Bertha Stowe Mabe. Jessie was a 1950 graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz. He served in the Navy for 4 years and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Vending at DuPont after 29 years of service. He was an active member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church for 49 years and was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville. Memorial remembrances may be offered to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family expresses kindness and love to each one who has touched Jessie’s and our lives in so many beautiful ways. A memorial service with military honors will be held Monday, August 26th, at 7:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial at Roselawn Burial will be private.
