Seth Alan Kanode, 56, of Martinsville passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019. He was born in Martinsville, VA. on October 30, 1962 to Roland Alfred Kanode and Clara Fern Kanode. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, J. Lloyd Gregory; mother-in-law, Charlotte Gregory; sister-in-law, Dolores “Dodie” Stoneman; brother-in-law, John Gregory; nephew, Derik Stoneman. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Solomon (Shelby Bradshaw); daughter, Kirstie Shelton (Eric); son, Samuel; granddaughter, River Bright Shelton; brothers, Mark Kanode (Lori) and Luke Kanode (Nikki); sisters, Betsy Hodges (Gordon) and Lori Doyle (Derrick); sister-in-law, Marilynn Conner (Val); many nieces and nephews. Seth retired as a Master Police Officer from the Martinsville Police Department. Seth’s calm demeanor in handling difficult and dangerous situations earned him a lot of respect among his fellow officers. He was a valued member of the department’s Emergency Response Team where he was well known for his prayers for safety prior to every operation. His hard work ethic and ability to get along well with others served him well as a Field Training Officer. Seth was a master rappeller, a firearms’s instructor, a member of the department’s SCUBA Team, Accident Reconstruction Team and Honor Guard. Seth was a deacon and worship leader at Hope Presbyterian Church. He was the owner/operator of Foremost Tree and Power Service. He had also been a volunteer fireman for five years at the Axton Volunteer Fire Department. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Galilean House of Worship. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Galilean House of Worship and will be officiated by Pastor David Gilleran and Reverend Eric Kieselbach. Interment will be at Mayo Baptist Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to a fundraising effort on a facebook account.
