The eldest of ten children, she helped raise her brothers and sisters. She was surrounded by traditional music and food, the importance of which she was passing on to her own family.
She met her husband Frank through his brother, whom she would go dancing with. Her father, recognizing a hard working young man, nudged her in his direction.
The couple were married on September 27th, 1949 in Goliad, Texas and moved out west to Petersburg, where Frank took a job with the John Deere Tractor Co. There they began their family. In 1966, they moved north to Washington, initially settling in Snohomish. Eventually Frank took a job with Pacific Grinding Wheel. Alberta found work at a nursing home in Warm Beach, and they made their home in the Lake Goodwin area.
She always took pride in keeping a tidy home, despite their limited means. Likewise, her guests would never leave her house without a full belly, filling up on her amazing tamales and tortillas.
Alberta leaves behind her six children, Pauline Costilla (Richard), Frank Jr. (Colleen), John (Rosa), Jimmy (Nena), Joe (Teddie), and Mary Adams (Martin), her twenty grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her very much. She is reunited in Heaven with Frank and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family would like to thank the staff of Graceful Living in Everett for taking such excellent care of Alberta over the past few months.
Her memorial will be held at 3pm on Saturday, February 3rd at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Avenue, Marysville Wa.
