It is with sadness in our hearts that we share the news that Arthur Lee Dahlgren passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2025 at the age of 86. Art, (as he was better known), spent his final days surrounded by the loving support and company of his family.
Art was born August 16th, 1938 in Monroe Washington to Ernest Monroe Dahlgren and Alice Louise (McClellan) Dahlgren. He was raised in Skykomish Washington with his five younger siblings, Sharon, Janice, Thomas, Pamela, and John. Art also had two half siblings from his father’s previous marriage, Ardyth and Jack, (Jack passed as an infant). Art often spoke fondly of growing up in Skykomish and the life-long friendships that were made there. The rugged mountain lifestyle developed his love for the outdoors. He excelled in academics, especially enjoying math, and also played high school tennis and basketball. Art was a member of the Skykomish High School Basketball team that energized the small town with their Cinderella season, ultimately winning the 1954 Class B State Championship. Art’s family relocated to Forks Washington for his senior year where he graduated from Forks High School.
Art joined the Army becoming a communications specialist with assignments in Japan, Germany, across the U.S. and war time duty in Vietnam. He served twenty years before retiring in 1977. Post military, he pursued an accounting degree and worked as an accountant for Kirk Company. He would later take a security position for a shipping company at the Port of Tacoma.
Art found personal enrichment in his many hobbies and interests. He was a committed street motorcycle rider for many decades. His curiosity and research into history spun off into becoming a gun and coin collecting hobbyist. He was a prolific reader and loved examining a myriad of topics. Art was always seeking fun competition, such as darts, bowling, the shooting range, chess, and trivia nights. He traveled regularly but also enjoyed staying close, as he was an avid fisherman of the rivers and lakes of his home state of Washington. Art could always make us laugh by masterfully weaving his dry humor into his good-natured soft-spoken temperament. He will be missed, but his integrity, humility and willingness to defer to the needs of others leaves a legacy that will endure.
Art was married and divorced two times, first to Heide Guenzel and later to Jan Wiebe. He spent his later years with his companion Anna Dintleman. Art leaves behind 5 children: Michael Johnson; Ramona and her husband James Randall; Susan and her husband Greg Rook; Mark and his wife Venea Dahlgren; and Kurt (stepson) and his wife Kathleen Wiebe. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A beautiful life that came to an end,
he died as he lived,
everyone's friend.
In our hearts a memory will alway be kept,
of one we loved,
and will never forget.
