Art was born January 6, 1930 in Arlington WA and passed away June 23, 2011 with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Art graduated from Arlington High School then proudly served in the Army. Many will remember ‘Art’s Chevron’ in Arlington. He served in both Arlington and Marysville Volunteer Fire Departments. After retiring from the Automotive Machinist Union in 1992, he enjoyed retirement as a snowbird seasonally migrating between Apache Junction Arizona and Marysville.
He loved tinkering with cars and trucks, fishing, camping and of course his John Deere.
Art unselfishly gave of his time and talent to help others, was a natural hard worker and taught his children & family these same values. Grandkids marveled at his ability to catch moles at the river lot too!
Art is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Ruth, Daughters Cristy (Glenn) Santeford, Cathy (Lance) Turk, Grandchildren Matt (Amy) Santeford, C.J. (Lynnea) Santeford, Ryan Turk and Great Grandchildren Allison, Jacob and Benjamin.
He leaves behind his sister Marlyn Carlson, sister-in-laws Helen, Carol and Patty, faithful pooch and companion “Sammie” and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Agnes Swanson, Daughter Deborah Jo and Brothers Dick, Don, Carl and Paul.
He was a man’s man, and all that knew him shall miss him greatly.
Charitable donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and Seattle Childrens Hospital Foundation.
A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Art’s life will be held at the family home in Marysville July 9th from 2:00 - 6:00.
Arrangements under the direction of Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville, WA.
