From a young age, Dan had a passion for baseball. He played with enthusiasm in Little League, Pony League, and high school. Those days were made even more special by the time he shared with his dad at Dodger games. It was more than just a game for Dan; it was a bond that strengthened his love for the sport.
Annual trips with his mom to visit family in Indiana were a highlight of Dan's childhood. The excitement of boarding a plane and reuniting with cousins, aunts, and uncles created cherished memories. Dan also enjoyed trips with his dad to Hollywood Boulevard when it was still in its glamorous heyday.
Dan's love for the ocean led him to the waves, where he found the exhilaration in surfing. He surfed all along the California coastline, with favorite spots like Oil Piers, Rincon, and the beaches of San Diego.
After high school, Dan enlisted in the Air Force and moved to Tucson, Arizona. After completing his service and studies, Dan returned to Ventura, California, where he embarked on a long and successful career at Barber Ford, working his way from sales to management.
Life took a beautiful turn in 1980 when Dan met Leigh, the love of his life. They were married on July 2, 1983. Together, they created a loving home and raised three wonderful children: Jennifer (Aaron), Carley (Matthew), and Cheyne. Dan's heart overflowed with pride and joy for his children.
Golfing, playing wiffle ball in the backyard, and spending quality time at home with his family were some of Dan's favorite pastimes. These moments of laughter and connection created a lifetime of cherished memories.
In 1996, Dan became a dedicated member of the Friends of Bill W., a program that he held close to his heart. The impact of his passion for these steps and principles reached far and wide, touching countless lives in ways that are evident even today.
Family traditions were a cornerstone. The annual camping trip to Moses Lake was a cherished event, bringing together family and friends for decades of unforgettable memories. Dan and Leigh also shared a love for travel, exploring Mexico's beauty and creating lasting memories in Cancun. In 2006, they brought the entire family on a memorable trip to Mexico.
One of Dan and Leigh's most exciting adventures came in 1999 when they won a trip to London through Safeway's Talking Can contest. The thrill of winning was shared equally between them. They extended their trip to include Paris, the French Riviera, the Italian Riviera, and Rome, enjoying three incredible weeks exploring Europe's wonders.
Dan's love for his three beautiful grandchildren, Ethan, Hendrix, and Presley, knew no bounds. They were the light of his life, filling his heart with immeasurable joy and pride.
As time went on, Dan's health began to decline, and the last few years were marked by increasing hospital visits. However he continued to attend his beloved meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays whenever he was able. Thank you to all of you that provided that support he needed to attend these meetings.
On December 2, 2024, Dan's health took a turn, leading to another hospital visit. Despite his efforts to regain strength, his body grew tired, and he returned to the hospital. Surrounded by the love of his family, Dan peacefully passed away on January 9th, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength.
