Maurice Thoresen, lifelong resident of the Everett and Marysville, WA area, and Pearl Harbor Survivor, passed away on May 15, 2012 at the age of 93. He was born April 6, 1919 to Ernest and Minnie Thoresen in Ashcroft, B.C.
Maury loved the outdoors and enjoyed fly fishing in his younger years and was an avid photographer. His true passion was for sailing, and his boat "La Dama Del Mar", brought him much joy and adventure the many years he owned her. Maury had many stories of his childhood and travels, his accounts of the attack on Pearl Harbor were first hand, having been stationed there aboard the USCGC Roger B. Taney when it occurred. How fortunate we all were to have him share a part of our American history in that way.
Maury is now reunited with his loving wife, Pat who passed away in 2009. They brought much love and happiness to each other in their 40 years together and we all know how much he missed her.
He leaves behind his sisters, Blanche Hanson and Shirley Nielsen both of Marysville; daughter, Maureen Gustafson; and son, Todd Thoresen; step-children, Larry Pfeil, Jan Segar, Kelly Henderson and 10 grand-children.
A service will be held for Maury on Thursday, May 24, 2012, 2 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman, 804 State Ave.in Marysville with private burial to follow at the Marysville Cemetery.
